The weather is finally (finally!) cooling down in Corpus Christi, and we’ve been keeping the windows open in the apartment to welcome the strong breeze coming off the bay. After a lovely trip home to North Carolina—where leaves were actually falling!—I’m readier than ever for chilly weather—as well as the inward reflection that seems to accompany this time of year.
During last spring and summer, my energies were rather outwardly directed. From putting on our wedding to launching Bisou du Jour to picking up a few extra jobs, the notion of forward progress (and, to some extent, perfection) kept pushing me forward. While I’m still focused on advancing my career and developing my professional skills (like blogging and passable coding), I’m allowing myself to be more present in my life this season. Even though my default mode is to be wary of idleness, I’m encouraging myself to slow down.
This past weekend, E. and I grabbed coffee to-go at our favorite café and went for a stroll down Corpus Christi Bay. The cool wind was exhilarating, and, when I stopped thinking about what I needed to get done that weekend, what I would cook for dinner, etc., I felt truly happy just where I was, both physically and abstractly. I felt as though the world was holding me up in a strong, stable net, safely above hand-wringing and strife.
So here’s to embracing moments as ends in themselves rather than vehicles to yet more moments. I hope you find this autumn-inspired playlist as refreshing as sleeping with the windows open. xx M.
