I started working on Bisou du Jour back in March. It certainly doesn’t feel that long ago! BdJ is actually my second attempt at a personal blog. I began my first blog after I finished my Master’s program and shortly before I started working at Peaceful Dumpling. One of the primary reasons I left my first attempt behind was because I didn’t have the creative control over the aesthetics of the site, something which has always been very important to me. This past spring, with the desire for a space online to share pretty thoughts and things of a (kind of) random nature, I cut my teeth on more involved web design and started Bisou du Jour.
For months, I kept it un-launched as I tweaked the theme and wrote several posts. One day I realized that I had about 12 posts, and I needed to just share the site already! Although there’s more work I want to do, I decided I didn’t want my perfectionism to get in the way of just starting. I don’t have terribly distinct ambitions for Bisou du Jour.
I only know that I want to make a beautiful thing.
For better or worse, beauty, as an end itself, has always defined my approach to so much in life. Beauty is broadly defined on this site–it’s essentially anything that makes me feel delight and love. As I mention in my “Welcome” post (originally written in March–oh my!), Bisou du Jour is a place where I’ll share makeup favorites (like green and vegan cosmetics), wellness and detox rituals, lovely music, snippets of my writing life, and the small but significant moments that sweeten daily life. I hope it’s a place for us to linger and celebrate all things beautiful.
